This fall, the Socialist Left Party (SV) plans to submit a proposal to remove local authority to ban local begging.
Bjornafjorden in Vestland is currently the only municipality in the country to ban begging, writes the newspaper Bergens Tidende.
The Center Party (SP), Progressive Party (FRP) and Conservative Party (H) changed the law in 2016 to give local governments the opportunity to ban local begging. Now SP may be trying to change its position. His SP on the Judiciary Committee, Iver B. Prestbakmo, says the party is “open” to his SV’s proposal.
“We will not draw any conclusions at this time and will take this into consideration when the time comes,” he told the newspaper.
Prestbakmo emphasized that one aspect of the case concerns local authorities. The Conservative Party, on the other hand, has no intention of turning around on this issue.
“This is something that local governments and their respective residents must decide for themselves,” judicial policy spokesman Sveinung Stensland wrote in an email.
