On Thursday, the Norwegian Parliament (Storting) approves NATO applications in Finland and Sweden.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støle (AP) will attend the storming on Thursday, June 16 in connection with the approval of the draft Protocol on Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO.

Storting has arranged to take a positive position on joining NATO in both countries as soon as possible. The recommendations from the Foreign Defense Commission are endorsed by all parties except the Red Party (Rødt), which votes against it.

The Socialist Left Party (SV) has confirmed its support for the proposal, even though it opposes Norway’s accession to the Defense Alliance.

Finland and Sweden submitted a NATO membership application on May 18th. Opposition from Turkey delayed what was supposed to be a rapid process.

Before initiating the formal ratification process, the 30 ambassadors of the NATO Board of Directors must sign the so-called Membership Protocol, an invitation to the Alliance.
