For ordinary households in eastern Norway, electricity bills increased by NOK 3,900 in the first half of the year, despite electricity subsidies of nearly NOK 10,000, according to estimates by the Norwegian Directorate for Water Resources and Energy (NVE).
The NVE figures include deductions for electricity, grid usage fees, all taxes and state power subsidies, writes newspaper E24.
This figure is based on a family with a spot price contract and 20,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity consumption per year. This is slightly more than the average Norwegian household consumes.
Thanks to power subsidies, the bill is significantly less than before. NVE estimates the subsidy to be NOK 9,400 for this example family.
Without it, our electricity bills would have nearly doubled from last year to this year. Instead, he increased by 28% in the first half compared to the same period last year.
So far this year, the state has covered 80% of average monthly charges above 70 ole/kWh. From the end of the month, 90% of this cost will be covered. Support is limited to 5,000 kWh usage per month.
