The construction of the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) was funded by a donation of HK $ 3.5 billion from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charity Trust. This is the club’s largest single charity donation to date. The museum will be open to the public on July 2nd as a highlight of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The opening ceremony of HKPM was held on June 22, co-sponsored by the HKSAR government and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, and Chief Executive of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, Lee Wen. Lu Xin-ning, Deputy Director of HKSAR’s Central People’s Government Liaison Office, Yang Yi-rui, Deputy Director of HKSAR’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Dr Wang Xu-dong, Deputy Director of the Palace, Jack Chan, West President of the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCDA), Henry Tang, Club President Philip Chen, HKPM President Bernard Charnwut Chan, Chief Executive Officer WKCDA Betty Fung Officer and Museum Director of HKPM Dr Louis Ng. Also attended were former club presidents Dr. Simon Yip and Dr. Anthony Chow, Club Steward, and CEO Winfried Engelbrecht Brecht Brecht. Club President Philip Chen expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the support of the Government of China, the Government of Central People’s Government, and the Government of Hong Kong SAR. He said HKPM has great implications for both Hong Kong and the club. “First, this is the club’s largest single donation to date.
