The application for a plan to build a movie studio in Mullingar has been approved by the Westmeath County Council.

Expected to be Ireland’s largest film, television and content studio, ammerlake Studios will be built at Lough Sheever Corporate Park in Mullingar.

The final decision to grant a building permit will be made by the council in September.

The first phase of construction of the 25-acre site is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2024. It focuses on the construction of four studios, workshops, administration buildings, technology centers and editing rooms.

This stage of construction is expected to take a year, creating 350 production roles and 300 construction jobs.

The second phase of development will be submitted for plan approval next summer, with seven more studios added to the Hammerlake Studios campus. This spans 460,000 square feet.

This will add another 1,000 production jobs on campus.

The leadership team behind the studio plan includes members of the film industry with experience at Universal Pictures, Disney, and Troy Studios.

North American executive film producers also advised on campus layout and design.

Paul Chesney, CEO of Hammerlake Studios, said the Westmeath County Council’s approval was “a major step forward in planning to build a world-class film and content production facility in Mullingar, helping to make the biggest and best films. It is a facility that can be done.

“We need not only a functional service-oriented work studio, but also production entities such as top-notch catering and off-stage photography, as well as creative support, technology, equipment and secure data capabilities. It will be a destination that provides everything you do. It’s all on one campus, “he added.

Tom Dowling, director of development and studio operations, said Ireland currently has three large studio facilities, but demand has skyrocketed in recent years.

“Mullingar is close to Dublin, and its excellent road and rail network, young workforce, and range of quality hotels meet the standards for a new sustainable green film campus location,” he said. Told.

Hammerlake Studios will also host an information evening starting in September to meet locals with relevant skills.
