DOHA: The Qatar Football Association said in a tweet yesterday that Qatari midfielder Abdullah Al Aflaq (pictured) has been ruled out of the World Cup due to a cruciate ligament injury.

The Duhail player will be out of action for nine months and will miss the World Cup in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December.

Qatar will face the Netherlands and Senegal in Group A against Ecuador on 20 November at Arbeit Stadium.

The Qatari players are now training for the biggest competition of their lives and playing friendlies in Europe.
