Radio Cayman Building

(CNS): The Cayman Islands Fire Department (CIFS) was summoned to a building fire at Radio Cayman Building in Georgetown around 10:30 am Thursday morning. However, upon arrival, the crew realized that the flame was actually a garbage fire in a nearby empty aquarium behind a local radio station at a facility in the Scranton area.

A quick response by a firefighter equipped with a high pressure hose reel from one of the CIFS’s quick intervention vehicles extinguished the flames, prevented property damage, and no injuries were reported.

The fire department reminded the general public that burning garbage and materials without proper permission is prohibited. This is to avoid potential damage to nearby buildings due to the embers spreading in the wind.
