Bamako: Security ministry said Friday that unidentified armed men had killed six people at a checkpoint 70 km (44 miles) east of Mali’s capital, Bamako.
It has not been revealed who was responsible for the attack that took place overnight in an area southwest of Mali.

Three of the killed were members of security forces and three were civilians, the ministry said in an online post without giving details.
Mali has been struggling to stop the rebellion that took root after the 2012 coup and has since spread from the dry north of West Africa to its neighbors.

Thousands have died and millions have been forced to evacuate throughout the Sahel region.
