Garth Brooks isn’t the only gig in Dublin tonight.
He curates upheavals and headlines Rock Against the Homeless in support of Focus Ireland at the Workman’s Club on Wellington Quay in Temple Bar.
Doors open at 7pm and tickets are just €16.50, with all proceeds going to Focus Ireland.
Part of The Sunday Independent’s nine-year series of gigs for the homeless (Fontaines DC, Imelda May, Hamsandwich, Camille O’Sullivan, Dermot Kennedy, Glenn Hansard, Paul Brady, Boomtown Rats, etc.) ) tonight’s show promises to be a great gig while helping the most vulnerable people in our society.
Mal Tuohy, lead singer and guitarist of The Riptide Movement, told Independent.ie before the show: Help homeless people and those at risk of becoming homeless. It’s going to be a cracking gig.
“We have selected an eclectic mix of incredible Irish artists to perform for the night, including renowned singer-songwriter and storyteller Davey Fury. Luann Perl, world-class soprano and international opera star Celine Byrne, and renowned singer-songwriter Shobsy.
“I will also be performing some songs from my next solo album, I Cross This Universe, which I hope to release in early 2023.
“It’s been a really busy summer for the band with all the festivals, including last weekend’s Electric Picnic and a national tour ending at the end of September,” added Tuohy. “So this Rock Against Homeless gig will be one of the last chances to catch us live this year.
“We are taking a break from the live scene for a while as we begin work on our sixth studio album, due for release in Fall 2023. Join us tonight at the Workmans Club for a great night of great music. for.”
Focus Ireland CEO Pat Denigan told Independent.ie:
“We need to raise at least 40% of our annual budget through fundraising and events like this, so we can always be there when people need a little help.”
“Sadly, our support services and housing are needed now more than ever. It’s getting worse.
“It is heartbreaking that there are now more than 3,000 homeless children and many of their families have lost their homes in the rental sector due to rising rents, tenure uncertainties and rising costs of living.
“Rents are now past their Celtic Tiger peak, putting thousands of families and individuals at a tipping point between homelessness and homelessness in conjunction with the rising cost of living.”
he said: Rock Against Homeless concerts are essential in raising funds to support our cause, and they also play an important role in raising awareness and getting people to talk about issues. “
