Spitting Image star Matt Ford said he was “a little happy” to be able to stop voicing the “terrible” Liz Truss so soon after stepping down as prime minister.

The Impressionist said he would be “comedy gold” if Boris Johnson returned, and even spoke out on a satirical puppet-based sketch show, but his impact on Britain would be “unthinkable”.

Johnson was vacationing in the Caribbean when Truss announced his resignation on Thursday, and although he has not confirmed whether he will take the top job, some Conservative MPs have said he will serve as prime minister. has voiced support for his return to the

When asked if he was happy to cut the character of Liz Truss, Ford told PA News Agency: Ironically, I came to really like the terrible impression I had of her.

“I’m a little sad that it has to end so soon.

“Obviously selfish and purely comedic, the return of Boris Johnson would be a comedic milestone, but I care what happens to the country and I don’t see him coming back. It would be unthinkable.

“Strangely enough, the chances of him coming back are more real than any sensible person thinks. I would still be surprised if it came to pass.”

He added that Johnson’s landslide in the 2019 general election was due to Brexit and the “unpopularity” of former Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn.

“[The Tory MP]completely misunderstands his relative popularity three years ago and how well people are still doing,” he told PA.

“[If a member chooses him]it’s like setting off fireworks and eating a troublesome ex-girlfriend.

Forde added he hopes the show will be a “catharsis” for the country amid political turmoil, inflationary pressures and rising mortgage rates.

“It’s a relief (for the audience) to laugh at these Wallys who ended up in charge,” he said.

Forde also told PA during live interviews with Tory MP Jacob Rees-Mogg and Labor MP Dr Rosena Allyn Khan.

“And he was clearly in awe of her and was very complementary.”

Ford will also look into Mr. Johnson’s history in a six-part podcast series, “British Scandal: Boris Johnson,” with fellow producer Wanderly-to-host Alice Levine.
