Norwegians spent NOK 3.6 billion on cross-border shopping in the second quarter of 2022. This means that cross-border shopping has returned to pre-pandemic levels.

Norwegians spent NOK 3.6 billion on cross-border shopping in April, May and June this year, according to new figures from Statistics Norway (SSB).

Cross-border shopping came to a sudden halt when Norway introduced strict coronavirus measures in March 2020, but once restrictions were lifted in February this year, shopping picked up speed again.

“This was the first quarter since the end of 2019 that there were no travel restrictions related to the Corona outbreak.

“Cross-border shopping has rapidly recovered to levels similar to those of the pre-pandemic years,” said SSB adviser Kristin Aasestad.

Quarterly figures show that cross-border trade is at levels corresponding to the second quarter of the year 2016-2018.
