Summer School allows students to refresh their knowledge of core subjects in two weeks before school resumes

Thousands of students are set to hone their language and math skills ahead of the start of the new school year, after deciding to continue with plans set by the government during the coronavirus pandemic. . The scheme forced the child and her teens to learn from behind a screen at home.

At the so-called Summer School, between the end of August and the 9th of September, students refresh their knowledge of the main subjects and return to their studies in a calmer way after a long summer break.

It was founded in 2020, when schools across the country were forced to close and classes moved online. However, despite the return of teachers and students to classrooms, the Ministry of Education decided to keep the program alive.

More than 5,600 students will attend German, French, English or Math classes in the two weeks before the start of the new school year on September 15th. Last year he had over 7,200 enrolled and the year before he had over 5,900 enrolled.

German is the most popular language among elementary school students attending summer school, while middle school students primarily choose mathematics classes, followed by French.

Primary school students are taught in German. Across the EU, Luxembourg has the highest number of students who do not speak their school language at home and often lags behind in curriculum. The 463 teachers and students working in the summer school do so voluntarily.
