Animal Welfare Campaign Group Wacker Deer said on Tuesday that the total number of special offers in meat and meat products supermarkets fell for the first time since 2015 in the first six months of the year.

According to Wacker Deer, the number of special offers returned to 2020 levels after setting a new record in the first half of 2021, but several supermarket chains, including Plus and Aldi, increased individual offers. ..

The decline was noticeable for all types of meat and there was little change in the number of special offers for meat substitutes.

Wakker Dier said the change could extend to a climate change agreement signed by supermarkets, which promised to encourage more plant-based diets.

“Supermarkets can only fulfill these promises if the decline in special meat offers continues,” said spokeswoman Anne Hilhorst. “It’s perfect for both climate and animals.”
