This week, an experiment began in Switzerland to use electric vehicles to stabilize the grid. The VX2 Swiss project will run for a year and while not in use he will inject power from 50 electric car batteries into the grid.
Operating out of Bern, the project will bring together seven companies under the supervision of car-sharing service Mobility to provide 50 electric Hondas spread across 40 locations in Switzerland.
The aim is to see if electric vehicles can be used to cover power shortages and increase grid stability.
All of Mobility’s 3,000 fleet vehicles represent power storage capacity that exceeds many lakes.
