The UK’s largest broadcaster has passed two motions to defend public broadcasting, creative content, and work.
His motion was passed by Bektu at a national conference on Sunday.
The meeting said UK public broadcasters were “unprecedentedly attacked” following the government’s plans to privatize Channel 4 and reduce BBC license fees.
Secretary of State Nadine Dorries of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sports has also proposed a review of the BBC’s future funding.
Bectu members include not only BBC staff, but staff throughout the television, film, theater and live event industries.

Philippa Children, the head of the organization, described the government’s proposal as an act of “cultural vandalism.”
“Bectu does not allow these attacks to pass invincibly,” she said.
“Freezing the BBC license fee and later abolishing it requires significant savings – hitting jobs, the local economy, and ultimately content that the British people know and love.
“Privatization will have a major impact on independent production and the thousands of jobs it creates.
“Audiences will also suffer. With the current funding model, Channel 4 can defend risk and creativity, push boundaries for UK viewers to enjoy, and outsource thought-provoking content. “
