Starting September 1st, all customers who order a new driver’s license will receive a new driver’s license. At the same time, laminated paper driver’s licenses are being phased out.
“The new driver’s license design provides greater security against counterfeiting and easier administration,” said John Erik Christiansen, senior engineer at the Norwegian Road Administration, in a press release.
The Highway Administration stresses that there is no need to replace the old credit card sized driver’s license models. In contrast, the large pink plastic-laminated paper driver’s license (Vienna Models 1-2) is no longer valid after the New Year and must be renewed by 1 January 2023.
The new driver’s license is made of polycarbonate and has the same credit card size format as the current driver’s license.
The new driver’s license adds several new security elements, including optical variable security elements, security patterns, unique serial numbers, and QR codes. You can find the song “Hyvän illan” in the microtext on the back of your driver’s license.
“The driver’s license has a new design with the national emblem placed in the upper left corner and is printed with optically variable ink that changes from green to blue when the card is viewed from different angles. This makes the card easier to manage. authenticity,” said John Eric Christiansen.
