An old man illegally riding an electric scooter on the road turned around and countered the flow of traffic after a Land Transport Authority (LTA) bailiff found him.
Later, the handlebar of his electric scooter hit one of the chest officers and was bruised.
On Wednesday (June 15th), Wong Chong Weng, now 71, was sentenced to three weeks in prison and a $ 1,400 fine.
He did a rash that puts others at risk, didn’t stop his e-scooter when an officer asked him to do so, and put the device on the road. I pleaded guilty to each of them.
E-scooter users can only ride the device on cycling trails.
The court heard that Wong was in his device in the left lane of Senba OneDrive around 4 pm on October 29, 2019.
Wong refused to obey, so Mr. Farhan warned several reserve police officers stationed nearby about the situation.
When Wong found another police officer approaching, he made a U-turn and rode an electric scooter against the flow of traffic.
Wong noticed that he had returned to Mr. Farhan and tried to get off the device and bring it to a nearby paved road.
However, the e-scooter was caught in a grass patch between the road and the pavement.
Meanwhile, Mr. Farhan shouted to Wong to stop, but his orders did not listen.
Wong returned the e-scooter to the road and continued to ride the device. After that, the handlebar hit Mr. Farhan’s chest.
Another LTA official warned police, the court heard.
An ambulance took Mr. Farhan to Cootech Puat Hospital, where he was found to have had a bruise on his chest. He was given three days of sick leave.
Criminals can be imprisoned for up to six months and fined up to $ 2,500 for committing reckless acts that endanger the safety of others.
Also, if you ride an electric scooter on the road, the first offender will be sentenced to up to 3 months in prison and up to $ 2,000 in fines. Repeated offenders will be imprisoned for up to 6 months and fined up to $ 5,000.
