SINGAPORE – Three men were taken to court on Tuesday (16 August) after a brawl outside the Orchard Tower on Sunday morning (14 August).
Abdul Hakim Jamil, 30, Muhammad Yusri Ramlee, 26, and Muhammad Fikri Junaidi, 22, were accused of illegal crimes with a common goal of harming two men identified in court documents as Mizra Abdul. face charges of being part of a violent gathering. Azman, 33, and his 20-year-old Abdulfigo Abdul Haleem.
All three men have been remanded and are scheduled to appear in court on August 23.
Two other men, Muhammad Fazli Junaidi, 34, and Muhammad Faiz Junaidi, 29, are also said to have been involved in the brawl around 5:10 a.m. Sunday but were charged Tuesday. It was not.
On Monday night, police said they had arrested the three men with the help of images from police cameras and CCTV footage.
A group of about 20 men were seen beating two men in a 14-second video shared in a WhatsApp chat group on Sunday.
Police said they were alerted to the incident around 5:15 a.m. Sunday.
All suspects involved in the fight fled before police arrived on the scene, but there were police cameras pointed at the area where the brawl took place.
Last week, ST reported that it received official notice in July to the Orchard Tower operator that it would not renew its public entertainment license after May 2023.
Law and order at Orchard Tower remain a concern and have not improved over the years, police said.
In the case of riots, offenders can be imprisoned for up to seven years and flogged.
