The Bermuda Institute of International Business announced that three ABIC Education Award winners (Larissa Simmons, Jada Davis, and Amelia Osman) will receive special commemorative awards in honor of past ABIC Scholarship winners.
A spokesperson said, “The $15,000 Shernelle Outerbridge Memorial Award was presented to Larissa Simmons, a senior student at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama.
“Sheernell was an ABIC award winner in 1984, earned a degree in public policy and public administration from York University in Toronto, worked in Zurich, and became president of Zurich Investment Services in just 12 years. Zurich has created this annual award to students who reflect Scherner’s attributes: dedication to learning, high motivation, balance in life, caring nature and genuine personality.
“The Zurich special committee that selected Larissa described her as ‘genuinely genuine and honest in her expression of who she is and where she wants to go in life’. Larissa, the first in her family to go to college, is determined to achieve her career goals of becoming a certified public accountant. She believes in giving back to her community and has volunteered for numerous charities including PALS, the Bermuda Red Cross, and the Mirrors Program to support young Bermudians seeking a career in international business. To that end, she hopes to one day launch her own mentoring program.

“The $5,000 Michelle Outerbridge Memorial Award will go to Jada Davis, who will enter Rutgers University in September, pursuing a dual major in financial and business analytics and information technology.
Michelle received an ABIC scholarship in 2000. She achieved her high academic achievements and her that her enthusiasm and her all-around vigor for her life left a lasting impression on all who met her. Each year since 2003, ABIC member companies have sponsored the award in her memory.

“The $5,000 Stephen Edwards Memorial Award was presented to Amelia Osman, who will begin her Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Brock University in Ontario, Canada beginning in September.
“Stephen received an ABIC scholarship in 2014, but tragically died in a motorcycle accident a few months later at the age of 19. He was a talented rugby player and an outstanding athlete in Bermuda. This annual award has been funded by ABIC member companies since 2015 and is awarded to young people who exhibit the same attributes for which Stephen was so admired. increase.
