The Republic of Turkey observes Republic Day as a public holiday to commemorate the declaration of the Republic of Turkey by its people on October 29, 1923.
To mark the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey, a National Day Reception was held at the residence of the Turkish Ambassador in Qatar.
In his address to the reception, the Ambassador emphasized his belief that bilateral relations between Turkey and Qatar are of great importance.
Relations between Turkey and Qatar are clear, stable and continue to grow, despite rapid changes in world politics and deepening conflicts between Middle Eastern countries.
In his speech, the ambassador underscored the strength of the relationship between the two countries, saying there was “a clear volume of trade exchanges” between the two countries which he said had increased by more than 60% over the past five years.
According to the ambassador, Ataturk’s philosophy of “peace at home, peace in the world” is embedded in Turkey’s approach to foreign policy today.
The Ambassador also emphasized the importance of the upcoming tournament and how it will affect the region and the Islamic world as a whole.
“I am confident that Qatar will host the greatest World Cup ever. I am proud that Qatar will become the first Muslim country to host such a large-scale international competition.”
