California: Twitter Inc adds podcasts to a test version of its audio chat room Spaces, entering a space dominated by Spotify Technology and Apple Inc.

The social media company said Thursday that the feature will be available initially in English only to a random group of users who can listen to the full show through curated playlists based on their interests. (https://bit.ly/3Agti4s)

Podcasts will be integrated into Twitter Spaces, which launched in 2020 after the success of social audio chat app Clubhouse during the pandemic.

Podcasts have grown exponentially over the past two years. With people stuck at home due to COVID-19, there was a demand for content ranging from breaking news to true crime documentaries.

Wall Street is also optimistic about the format’s long-term potential, as podcasts engage listeners for hours and create valuable advertising opportunities.
