Tyson Fury has called for an end to knife crime, saying his cousin Rico Barton died after sustaining a stab wound to the neck.
In a post on social media, the heavyweight boxing champion said his cousin was “stabbed in the neck” and called on the government to “provide a heavier sentence for knife crimes.”
Fury wrote on Instagram: This has to stop. ”
Fury added: [it’s] One for you!
“Life is so precious it can be taken away so quickly… RIP RICO BURTON May the Lord God give you a good place in Heaven” [sic]. see you soon. “
The Manchester Evening News reported that Mr Burton died early Sunday morning after an incident in Altrincham and that Greater Manchester Police have opened a homicide investigation.
MEN reported that a 17-year-old boy was seriously injured in the same incident around 3:30 am on Railway Street in the Goose Green area of Altrincham, County Trafford.
A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of Section 18 assault and remained in custody, according to MEN.
Greater Manchester Police said two men had been arrested in connection with the murder of a 31-year-old at Goose Green in Altrincham on Sunday.
