Singapore – Eleven professionals from eight companies will be trained to become technology sector leaders under a new initiative to develop talent for Singapore’s digital future.
The SG Digital Leadership Accelerator was unveiled on Tuesday (August 23) by Communications and Information Minister Josephine Teo at a scholarship award ceremony for six agencies of the Ministry of Communications and Information and the Smart Nation and Digital Government Office.
“The program aims to bring together digital leaders in Singapore at different stages of their careers. They will be mentored by established industry leaders while networking and supporting each other in their leadership journey. We will have the opportunity to do so,” said Teo, who is also a minister. According to the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), those selected will also gain overseas exposure related to leadership advancement.
An IMDA spokesperson added that those under the program, called SG Digital Leaders, are Singaporeans identified by companies as individuals with high potential for senior leadership positions.
Officials seek nominations from companies each year, including multinationals, large local companies, unicorns (those with a market capitalization of more than US$1 billion (S$1.4 billion)) and start-ups, the spokesman said. Mann said.
Each leader is given two years to complete a development program customized to their individual needs, which may include executive development programs, career coaching and mentorship.
The IMDA will also offer opportunities to expand its network in both the public and private sectors, the spokesperson added.
The first batch of leaders includes 34-year-old Justin Lee, chief product officer of shopping platform ShopBack.
