Ailish Tynan, 47, is an Irish soprano singer who is burgeoning in London. She is a regular at the Wigmore Hall, and she is also a frequent performer in opera. She is known for her versatility, her comical performances, and her fun and down-to-earth demeanor. A Mullingar native, she lives in London with her husband Keith, who is head bass her trombonist at the Royal Opera House. She has a five-year-old daughter, Daisy, and a dog, Jack.

Describe how your singing career began with The Butlins.
One of my brothers took me on vacation with his family.They put me in a talent contest for laughter. poor angelineI won this plastic board. It was just heat. Everyone was dressed up for the final, but I had nothing but shorts. My mother took off her skirt and stuck a safety pin in her back and put it on me. I first came here with another companion.
What’s the best advice you can give?
Be yourself and don’t worry about what other people think of you.
Do you have any advice for opera singers?
If they can pay their bills at the end of every month, I tell them they are rock stars in the opera world.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
I’m not a good listener, but I’ve always had confidence in myself. This is a big help for this business.
Who do you admire and why?
I have lived in London for the past 22 years. There are many caregivers who go from house to house. I see them every morning. They are people I really admire. They’re paid peanuts, but they’re there, taking care of these people with a big smile on their face.
why are you a singer
I love being in front of an audience and interacting with people. It’s also the only thing I can do well for a living.

What’s so special about opera?
Opera is all exaggerated. You love harder, you hate harder, you go to extremes in everything. Being able to unleash your emotional capacities in that way is a lot of fun.
Has your daughter seen you at the opera?
When she was four I took her La bohème And she was fascinated. But she didn’t watch the second half because she didn’t want to see me die.
Has Motherhood Changed You?
It’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my life. She wants to enjoy her time with her, so she’s cut back on her work considerably since she’s been there. She was 42 at the time, so it feels like a miracle. we have a ball together she’s a lot of fun
Please tell us about your most memorable time on stage.
when i was a tree bird Siegfried Wagner’s ring cycle required all this aerial work to be done in a harness. They lifted me to the top so I had to spin around like Tinkerbell and sing at the same time. I was then dropped off to give Siegfried the sword and the magic helm. The person in charge of operating the buttons was absent, and the stand-in didn’t know when to stop lowering me. By the time he stopped, I had landed on Tenor’s shoulders and had my legs wrapped around his neck.
